Why Is My Autoresponder List So Unresponsive?
One of the key reasons why some people don’t understand the true power behind the great marketing tool that is the autoresponder is because of their personal experience of owning a dead list. A dead list consists of leads that, at one time, gave you permission to contact them again via webform, however, they either forgot about you or just don’t have any real interest in what you’re offering to them. This can be very frustrating to marketers and can cause them to lose all hope and confidence very quickly. Owning a dead list can have that effect on a marketer. Fortunately, there is a way to ensure that your list never goes dry by keeping them active and highly responsive. The way to keep your list buzzing is to give them a “call to action”.
This may include asking them to send in their burning questions on whatever niche that your list is in so that you can answer them in your newsletter (this will cause more people to send in more questions because they would likely want their questions to be answered in the newsletter broadcast), asking them to give feedback on one of your products for a free gift in return (this is another good way to determine whether your list is dead or alive, make the incentive good enough and you should get feedback pouring into your inbox), and even asking them what topics they want to see covered in upcoming newsletters (this is also an easy way to get fresh, new ideas for future newsletter content).
If you own a newsletter and you’re providing your list with daily/weekly content, it’s always best to get them to send in their questions. This mainly works because, after a few weeks of answering frequently asked questions, your list will look to you as the authority in that niche, which not only builds a strong, positive relationship, but it also makes it easier to sell to them in the future because they view you as an authority.
Contacting your list and asking them to give feedback on your products or services works in two ways: 1) it gives you the opportunity to check and make sure you’re not trying to sell to a list that’s dead in the first place, and 2) you can get ideas on how to improve your products/services through what they have to say in their feedback. Use the good feedback as testimonials and post them on the site where you sell the product as “customer reviews”, and use the bad feedback (if any) as just a helpful tool on how to improve your business/products/services.
For newsletter publishers or list owners who provide their list with valuable information each week, you can make your newsletter more entertaining by giving your list a say in what is talked about and discussed in your upcoming newsletters. Simply take the most frequently requested subjects, gather information and write about them, and broadcast them in a newsletter to your list. This not only guarantees that the majority of your subscribers stay active, but you’ll also never run out of material for your newsletters because this method alone can get weeks worth of material to use.
